Infinita announces partnership with Wireless Watch Japan
We are pleased to announce we are joining forces with Mobikyo KK, the parent company of Wireless Watch Japan (and organizers of Mobile Monday Tokyo) to deliver in-depth research reports on all aspects of the mobile industry in Japan - and most importantly, how the lessons learned here apply to other markets worldwide.
As the first result of this, we have just published research reports on the two most successful SNSs in Japan - mixi and mobagetown.
mixi is a cross-platform PC/mobile SNS with more than 8 million users that has taken Japan by storm. One of the most important factors in mixi’s success story is its intelligent integration of both the mobile and the PC, delivering a user experience that is tailored to the different usage contexts of both media.
mobagetown, which currently has 4 million users and generates a stunning 9 billion page views per month, may well be the most traffic-intensive and fastest-growing mobile site on the planet. Its stellar success is based on a very clever integration of free mobile games, SNS features and avatars, which are leveraged to generate revenues from mobile advertising and mobile commerce.
Both reports, which are priced at $1,750 per single copy each (corporate license: $4,375), will be available on our own site shortly as well - for the time being, they can be downloaded on Wireless Watch Japan already. Please review the table of contents and sample pages for the mixi report [.pdf] and for the mobagetown report [.pdf], including the whole first chapter for free!
Coming shortly is “Mobile Japan 2007 - How and why it works”, a 150+ page report covering the ins and outs of the Japanese mobile market. From carrier strategy to handset design, from mobile music to 1seg Digital Broadcasting, from wallet phones/mobile payment to new developments in mobile search, off-portal sites and mobile advertising - it’s all there. Yes, some parts of the success story of mobile in Japan are specific to local regulatory, technological and cultural conditions - but the vast majority of the lessons from this market apply universally. Japan is a hotbed of innovation in all things mobile and will remain so, and there is a lot to be learned for operators, content providers, hardware makers and technical enablers worldwide.
